Late on Sunday night, October 1, a lone gunman shot a plethora of bullets onto a sold-out crowd attending the Route 91 Harvest music festival. The shooter, Stephen Paddock, Nevada native, fired one of his 23 firearms later found in his hotel room, from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel. At this time, the death toll is up to 59 and 527 injured, making this the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.

Jason Aldean, a headliner for the festival, was closing his set when gunshots were heard. Police responded to the reports shortly after 10 PM Pacific Time Zone.

Witnesses described the scene as bullets raining down from above for up to ten minutes.

According to Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo, Paddock had no criminal background and killed himself shortly before police entered his room. Paddock had 19 additional firearms in his possession at his house.

On Monday, October 2, flags were lowered at half-staff at the White House and U.S. Capitol. President Trump called the shooting “an act of pure evil” and plans on visiting Las Vegas on Wednesday, October 2.
