When I first saw the trailer for Moonlight, I couldn’t wait to see it. I was so excited that a couple of weeks after it’s release, I streamed it through a sketchy online website.

The movie lived up to my expectations and left me in awe with its amazing acting and bittersweet themes.

The story is the coming of age of a poor, African American boy, who struggles with his sexuality. Chiron, the protagonist, deals with issues about family, friendship, love, loss, and identity. These are issues we all deal with and yet, they are often ignored, especially in African American communities.

The production is a cinematic masterpiece that engrosses the viewer into a life often not portrayed in movies. It provides a modern perspective into the suffering some of us endure as a part of growing up.

Moonlight is one of the best movies I have seen and would recommend it to everyone who wants a refreshingly new themed movie.
