On Friday, Feb. 3 the first season of the new Netflix original series Santa Clarita Diet became available to stream. As a fan of Netflix original programming and sunny southern California, I sat down and binged the whole thing.

Mild spoilers ahead!!

The show stars Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant as married couple Sheila and Joel Hammond. The Hammonds are your typical married couple, both real estate agents, one daughter, perfect life, until one day Sheila pukes all over their new listing.

The next day she wakes up with no heartbeat.

Sheila, Joel and their teenage daughter Abby enlist the help of their neighbor Eric, an expert in the paranormal and resident nerd, who successfully deduces that Sheila is undead (zombie, he says, is inherently negative).

Initially, Sheila will only eat raw meat, that is until the very end of the first episode when she gets a taste for human flesh and decides she can’t eat anything other than that. Sheila’s strange diet leads to her and her husband searching out bad people for Sheila to munch on.

Some of the funniest moments in Santa Clarita Diet are due in part to the fact that Sheila being undead is seemingly normal to the family (and Eric).

Santa Clarita Diet boasts an amazing set of characters, a hilarious plot, and some of the funniest moments on television I’ve seen. And I watch a lot of TV.

For all fans of comedy and comedy-horror, Santa Clarita Diet, is one of the best shows on TV right now.
