On Oct. 14, the orchestra students welcomed the German exchange students from Theodor Huess Gymnasium.

Last year, over Spring Break, orchestra members traveled to Germany and performed in various venues there. This cultural and musical exchange began with retired orchestra director Marilyn Kesler, and has been a big event for all orchestra members.

The tradition continues with the German students coming to Okemos. They will be having a concert at Okemos High School on Oct. 16 at 7:30pm, featuring all their fine arts programs.

While they are here, the German students will be going to the Michigan Historical Museum, Greenfield Village, Detroit Institute of the Arts, and Detroit Zoo. The weekend is then spent with their host families.

After spending a few days in Okemos, they will be going to New York City before heading back to Germany.

On Oct. 21, they will be performing with the orchestra during their fall concert. The German students who are in orchestra will join in the pieces “American Reel” by Kurt Mosier and “Hoedown” by Aaron Copland. The concert will be held in the auditorium at 7:30 in the evening.
